What is Autism?

Autism is a complex neurobiological disorder that typically lasts throughout a person's lifetime. It is part of a group of disorders known as autism spectrum disorders (ASD). Today, 1 in 150 individuals is diagnosed with autism, making it more common than pediatric cancer, diabetes, and AIDS combined. It occurs in all racial, ethnic, and social groups and is four times more likely to strike boys than girls. Autism impairs a person's ability to communicate and relate to others. It is also associated with rigid routines and repetitive behaviors, such as obsessively arranging objects or following very specific routines. Symptoms can range from very mild to quite severe.

I had a scare last spring and an old friend of mine lost both breasts to cancer several years ago. She is fine today :) So many beautiful, wonderful women have been lost to this disease. If we all take one second and click we can actually help.
I also want to let everyone know that April is Autism Awareness Month. April 2 is Autism Awareness Day. As you know, my son, Ian is on the Autism spectrum. I will try to share every day in April one thing you may not know about autistic children and also an idea to make people aware of Autism in our world.

It's NOT SPRING !

Oh, my......you should have seen Ian this morning. After much ado about today being the first day of spring, he was not impressed to wake up and find snow lingering in our yard.
"It's NOT SPRING." he said. He was furious. The snow was supposed to completely disappear during the night, I guess. And the temp was supposed to climb into shorts weather.
Oh, he was ticked. He threw a tantrum for the first time in a long time.
YIKES! Spring, you don't know who you're messin' with. This is Ian, show some respect and act like Spring should!

About last night.......................

Well, after all the excitement, anticipation, nervousness, build-up, and preparation JODI'S 6 X 6 ALBUM WORKSHOP was last night!!!!
And it was so worth all of the above! I met some very nice young ladies and and spent some quality time with my Auntie Evva and her beautiful daughters, Jodi and Kristin. It was so edifying for me to have so many of them ask for my advice and opinion. I took tons of stuff and they used it!!!
I have quite an extensive punch collection and love every one of them. They all enjoyed the punches! Most everyone stamped! And they used ALOT of my scraps! Thank you!!! Now I can buy more paper!
I had an awesome time! Thank you, Jodi for having me!! I hope we can do it again sometime. I had to leave about 10, but hear that everyone else worked til 11 and Jodi had to clean up my mess!! Haha!
I would love to do a 6 x 6 album workshop with your group too! So, if you read here, call me!!

Addicted................

Addicted to 6 x 6 album pages, that is!
I am having a blast getting ready for Jodi's 6 x 6 album workshop on FRIDAY!!!
The one of Doug and Lindsay is done with the Cutie Pie designer paper! The big flower is chipboard......to adhere paper to the chipboard I cut a square big enough for the chipboard piece, adhere the paper to the chipboard, then I cut around it as close as I can with scissors and sometimes a craft knife. Then I use super fine sandpaper to knock off the edges.
It works great.
The one of Dylan is a quick white page stamped in real red with a stamp from the Doodle This set. Then a scalloped circle with Smile from Be Happy set. I punched tiny holes in the white scallop and put a red scallop behind it.
It is fun and quick doing these mini albums. I can see myself finally scrapbooking again and making my kids all special albums!
If YOU need to get your feet wet with scrapbooking, call me and we will start a 6 x 6 album and FINISH it!!

Here are a couple 6 x 6 album pages I just did!
My cousin Jodi's scrapbooking group is doing a 6 x 6 album workshop with me soon so I am busy making samples.
The one of Lindsay is a white page with a piece of River Rock cardstock stamped in Craft White using a stamp from Doodle This. The butterfly and happiness are rub ons and the ribbon is from the Theatre asst. and a piece of hemp twine.
The one of Jake is also a white page. A piece of the Western Sky background paper for the background and the photo corners and then Blue Bayou cardstock stamped in white with a stamp from the Wanted set, punched with the scallop punch and then a white scallop behind. Jumbo eyelet. I am pretty happy with these!
