some thoughts.........

I just listened to Steven Curtis Chapman's song "Cinderella".
What a tragedy for this family to lose their little girl. And the brother, my heart just hurts for this young man.

We went to church today........Memorial Day service. We remember (and we should)
all our soldiers, past and present. God Bless them and keep them all. Incredibly brave men and women.
Let's not forget Jesus, who died a horrible, painful, degrading death on a Roman cross to be the ultimate sacrifice for us all. And that He defeated death and lives today and fights for us daily. When we sin and confess it, Jesus goes to God, the Father and says "She's one of mine. I died for that sin." and just like that it is "off the books"!! When we don't know how to pray..........Jesus goes to God, the Father and prays what we need to but can't. I am newly amazed today at how much God loves me.....
And finally, I am thinking today about a young man, well first a little boy, age 3 in a stroller in the mall in Muskegon (the old mall) and his mother saying to me "He's a real handful" And then that little boy, age 11, not really understanding it all but knowing that his mom, who is dying of cancer, has just made a commitment to Jesus Christ. He brings her a religious figure and the words to "Footprints in the sand". He is adorable, blonde, funny, lively and he loves his mom like only an 11 year old boy can. I see him again after his mom dies, take him to church a few times, try hard to stay in touch, but he moves and our connection fades.
Then he is 20 and I get the news that he has just been killed in Iraq by a roadside bomb. Edie's little handful, now home with her after accepting Christ just shortly before his death. Buried next to her on her 45th birthday. I remember and honor Private first class Brett Witteveen and am glad to have watched him grow into that brave soldier and even more glad to know that he is with his mom in Heaven.
Memorial Day, remember those who have and still fight for us.....
